1986

Previous Policy Era

National Policy on Education 1986 was implemented with modifications in 1992. This policy served India for over three decades but needed updating for the 21st century.

2015

Committee Formation

The Ministry of Human Resource Development constituted a committee under Dr. K. Kasturirangan to draft the New Education Policy.

2019

Draft NEP Submission

The Kasturirangan Committee submitted the Draft National Education Policy to the Ministry of Education after extensive consultations.

2020

Policy Approval

Union Cabinet approved the National Education Policy 2020 on July 29, 2020, marking a historic shift in India's education landscape.

2021-Present

Implementation Phase

States and Union Territories have begun implementing NEP 2020 with the goal of complete implementation by 2040.
